Former Wales stars John Hartson and Robbie Savage attend Cardiff Combination League fixture

Sunday’s game between Aberystwyth Exiles and Cathays Conservatives has two familiar guests in attendance at Llanrumney University Fields on Sunday afternoon.

Former Wales internationals, both turned pundits John Hartson and Robbie Savage saw Cathays Conservatives come out on top in a 4-1 victory for the away side.

The reason behind it? The pair were there as part of filming ahead of the BT Sport Pub Cup, in which the Three Elms are sponsors of Aberystwyth Exiles. The Three Elms will play at Hartson’s old stomping ground ‘The Hawthorns’ the home of West Bromwich Albion on the 14th May, against seven other pubs.

The two can be seen offering advice in the changing rooms, as well as visiting the Four Elms which is based in Roath.

Hartson who played for clubs such as Celtic, Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion spoke of the opportunities that the Cup can provide.

“This is an incredible experience for players who put their boots on every Sunday for their local pub team to play on some of the very best pitches in the country,”

“The whole experience will be great and something to remember. From going to the stadium, using the same changing rooms to playing on the same pitches that the very top professionals play on week in week out. And both Robbie and I will be there to give some tips on the way.”

Aberystwyth Exiles currently sit fourth in the Premier Division and are set to represent The Four Elms in the BT Sport Pub Cup.

The BT Sport Pub Cup was set up back in 2017 and its aim was to ‘celebrate‘ grassroots football, as well as giving pub teams the chance to play some of England’s grounds. Loftus Road, Goodison Park, Vitality Stadium, Easter Road and Hillsborough are the other venues.
