Mold Alexandra 2-1 Llanuwchllyn – Alex come out on top in entertaining second half affair

Date: 17.02.2018

Venue: Alyn Park

Attendance: 48

Mold Alexandra claimed victory over Llauwchllyn at Alyn Park on Saturday afternoon, to move further away from the relegation zone.

The home side started the game as underdogs against their 2nd placed opponents but made a bright opening to the game, Arron North shooting wide of the near post on 12 minutes from a tight angle, which, was the first real chance of the game.

Llanuwchllyn responded six minutes later with an effort on goal of their own, Gwydion Ifan with a powerful shot that was well saved by Ben Jones.

The rest of the first half was controlled by Mold, who created some decent chances with some attractive passing football.

The best of these chances for Mold came on 27 minutes, Rhys Nash produced a fine solo run from nearly the halfway line all the way into the penalty area, visiting goalkeeper Rob Dascalu narrowed the angle for Nash and smothered his close-range shot.

Arron North impressed in the first half for Mold, a fine work-rate and commitment to the game was matched by some fine skill, most of the play from Mold seemed to come though Right Winger, North.

The score was goalless as the teams left the field for the half-time interval.

The opening minutes of the second period was quite quiet in truth, with most of the play concentrated in the middle third of the pitch.

This all changed on 54 minutes when Mold was awarded a penalty for a foul on Nash. Aled Reece stepped up and confidently placed the resulting spot-kick into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Almost immediately Llanuwchllyn had a chance for an equaliser, a long ball from the restart found John Evans on the edge of the box, goalkeeper Jones was quickly off his line to parry Evans’s shot.

The away side did, however, grab an equaliser on 60 minutes, again a penalty, which was given by the referee for some pulling by a Mold defender following a long ball floated into the area.

Everybody in the ground including both sets of players seemed a little stunned at the decision. The decision stood, and Sam Tyrev smashed the ball down the middle of the goal from 12 yards to make the game 1-1.

Mold regained the lead only four minutes later, the impressive North producing a great shot from outside the box, which finished in the bottom left corner giving the keeper no chance.

In a very exciting period of the game, Llanuwchllyn almost grabbed a second equaliser of the afternoon. In the 69th minute, Sam Evans produced a fine run and shot from distance that unfortunately for him hit the top of the crossbar.

The home side saw out the remaining 20 minutes of the game rather comfortably and could indeed have extended their lead on a couple of occasions only to be denied by some good goalkeeping by Llanuwchllyn’s Rob Dascalu.
