Spittle joins Connah’s Quay Nomads from Aberystwyth

Connah’s Quay Nomads have swooped to secure the full time signature of recently departed Aberystwyth Town defender Jonny Spittle.

The 23 year old has joined the 2nd placed JD Welsh Premier League side after spells at Welsh clubs including Llandudno and Airbus UK where he has previously worked under influential coach and manager Andy Morrison.

Spittle enjoyed a prolific status at Aberystwyth Town, and ironically saw them beat Nomads 4-2 in his final game for the Black and Greens.

He has featured for Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers and Rochdale in the English pyramid. During his time at Airbus, Llandudno and Aber, Spittle made 58 starts, six substitute appearances and weighed in with five goals.

Connah’s Quay have confirmed his shirt number as number four, and he is expected to join the squad in time for the JD Welsh Cup fourth round in which Nomads welcome CPD Porthmadog to Deeside.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Andy Morrison said:

“I have worked with Jonny previously at Airbus and have closely followed his development in recent years. Jonny fits the profile of the type of player we are looking to bring into the club – at 23, he’s a young Welsh Premier League centre half who we feel, by going full time, will help develop his game and bring more strength to our squad.”
