Y Clwb Pêl-droed

Your home for Welsh domestic football!

Meet the only side yet to lose in the Gwent County League

For any team to go on an unbeaten run it is an impressive feat, but to win every single league game you’ve played in this season is an even better achievement.

Gwent County League Division 2 side Villa Dino Christchurch have done that this season, winning fifteen games in a row in the league this season.

It all started back in 2014 when the club felt that it was stagnating, as they played in the Newport & Disrtrict Leagues, so the owners set the expectations of becoming a Gwent County League team, in which they are now in the second tier of Gwent football.

The owners of Villa Dino met Craig Kearney who had experience throughout the Newport & District Leagues who had been managing Bettws Socialdad who unfortunately folded. With the folding of the club, Kearney was allowed to bring his players and personnel to Villa Dino as they sought a change in fortune.

Despite a risk of having a whole new playing squad at the club, it was a successful change as they won the League and Cup in their first season, earning promotion to the Gwent County League.

The years of success did not end there as they won the Division again, thus there position now in the Gwent County League Second Division.

With a birth of his first child, Kearney stood down and Christchurch are now under the guidance of Jamie Taylor. Taylor has continued the work of Kearney as well as adding his own stamp on things, with Welsh League football the ambition.

The former Assistant Manager has performed exceptionally well in his first as a first team manager and this season his team have been frequent scorers this season, not once this season have they won by scoring just one goal.

With the results this season, this sees them hold a thirteen point gap over second place Ynysddu Welfare, with their next fixture on New Years Eve at home against Clydach Wasps.

NOTABLE RESULTS

  • 8-1 vs Spencer Youth (A)
  • 7-0 Abertillery Excelsiors (H)
  • 8-1 v Wattsville (H)
