Cefn Albion recruit two players as side plot bid to win Ardal North East

Cefn Albion have got their transfer business up and running as they add both Conner Kendrick and Josh Sumner to their squad.

Midfielder Josh Sumner was the first signing announced and he joined from Ardal North West outfit Brymbo.

Sumner had previously worked under first-team coach Richard Williams-Cooke at Oswestry Town, making him a long-term target for the club.

The 29-year-old – who was captain at his former club – made 17 appearances for Brymbo before making the decision to move across the Ardal Leagues.

Coach Williams-Cooke said: “Josh is a player I know really well and I am confident that he will fit into the club both on and off the pitch.

“His style of play and the energy he possesses on the field will only compliment and further strengthen the fantastic options we already have to choose from.”

Also joining the club is the returning Conner Kendrick, who enjoyed a successful first spell at the Cefn Mawr club.

He was part of the Cefners side which won both the FAW Trophy and the Welsh National League Premier Division Cup, netting in both finals.

The 26-year-old made 16 appearances for Mold Alexandra this season, scoring 15 goals including a hat-trick against Rhydymwyn back in August.

Before joining Mold Alexandra, he played for Penycae and scored eight goals in seven games for them before moving to Alyn Park.

He had scored then scored a further 12 goals following his move to Mold Alexandra in October 2020, scoring 20 goals in total before the season was truncated.

First-team manager Sean Jones said: “I am delighted to bring Conner back to the Albion into an environment which witnessed him thrive and score goals for fun which helped the team achieve.

“We have kept a close eye on Conner, Josh, and a few others so I’m glad to bring in at least a couple of our targets which will help us head into the second half of the season with a stronger squad.”

Both players could make their debut against Bow Street next week as the second-half of the season begins.

Third-placed Albion are four points behind league leaders Llanfair United but have four games in hand.
