Former STM Sports manager Gareth Morgan returns to Llanrumney United as Chairman

Former Welsh League manager Gareth Morgan has returned to local side Llanrumney United in the role as Chairman, following his exit from STM Sports.

Morgan who has managed sides such as Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran Celtic, Newport City and AFC Porth takes up the role of Chairman, where he will also assist interim manager Ben Stitfall for the remainder of the season.

The new look committee aims to improve the facilities of the seventh tier side, as well as developing talent in the local area, after seeing players depart the club for a higher level in recent years.

The club have since confirmed that they have sent an application to Cardiff Council about improving the clubs home ground.

“We have had some unbelievable talent in Llanrumney and surrounding area over the years. said the former STM boss.

Despite the hard work of the very small group of people who worked hard to keep things afloat here, there wasn’t anything to attract them or more importantly keep them in the area and at the Club for the long-term.”

“The people who have kept this Club going in recent years have done a remarkable job. said Morgan who praised volunteers who have helped run the club since his departure.

A decade ago I was part of the group here that won the Club’s only ever major trophy and I have always thought it criminal that it was all allowed to just fall apart.”

Llanrumney United are currently 12th in Division Two of the South Wales Alliance League, 9 points clear of Carnetown with three games in hand.

Both Joe Blackwell and Neil Shanahan will remain in their roles of Treasurer and Secretary.
