MATCH PREVIEW: Aberystwyth Town V Newtown

Aberystwyth’s relagation battle and Europa League play-off hopes return Friday as they take on 7th placed Newtown, who are in search of further positive results to take hold of the final European play-off spot.

After last weekend’s entertaining 2-2 draw at Rhyl, Aberystwyth will go into this match with high hopes and after the loan signings of TNS defender Phil Baker and Carmarthen Town striker Mark Jones, the Black and Greens have strengthened their squad going into this game.

But standing in their way are Newtown. Not long ago, they were stranded at the bottom of the table struggling for points, but after multiple positive performances and last weekend’s fantastic 4-1 win against Airbus UK, the Robins will look to beat their Mid Wales rivals in front of the Dias Stand.

The Robins are unbeaten in their last five, which includes three wins on the bounce against Cefn Druids, Rhyl and Llandudno. The wins, which have lifted them out of the drop zone, follows their 3-3 draw with TNS which saw them lose their 100% record.

However, what is pertinent is that Newtown’s last defeat came against the Seasiders on Boxing Day. Mathew Bishop’s side can take comfort from the fact they already have one over their opponents and will be hoping for a repeat performance this weekend.

Kick off is set for 8pm at Park Avenue, in what is set to be an exciting contest.
