Yesterday’s action saw Rhayader run riot over Machynlleth in the Spar Mid Wales League Division One.

New signing Tom Bethell scored twice from the spot early and Rhayader continued to show their dominance and their class to continue to push on.

Ifan Burrell scored for Rhayader with half an hour played, and by half time and it was 3-0 to the ‘Red Kites’.

Experienced midfielder Christian Jones scored the fourth not long after the break, followed by Ifan Burrell who went on to grab his second making it 5-0. Machynlleth’s bad day got worse as every time Rhayader pushed on, their defence looked increasingly disorientated and out of shape.

Rhayader took advantage of this and Richie Powell netted home twice in quick succession. With the game well won Rhayader continued to push on to increase their goal difference, scoring their eighth through Rhys Thomas.

A consolation goal was scored and the game finished 8-1 to Rhayader, in a game vital to their push for the title and promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance.

Berriew and Carno remain three and 11 points behind them respectively. Berriew faced a tough challenge away at Llanidloes but came away with 3 points with a 4-2 victory. Carno are looking to keep getting the points they need, and a 3-1 home win against Radnor Valley helped towards their title battle.
