Newtown sign Kenton and Rushton

Newtown AFC have today signed forward Nick Rushton and winger Joe Kenton from The Nomads and Tividale respectively.

The Robins have added two players to their ranks as they prepare for the second part of the season in Phase Two. Rushton joins on loan until the end of the season from gap Connahs Quay, making this his second spell after he played for the club in the 2011/2012 season, from Wrexham. His stint at Newtown was a successful one after he recorded 13 goals in 28 appearances.

Upon his return to Newtown, Rushton said joining Newtown was an easy decision to make.

“As soon as I knew Newtown were interested, it was quite an easy decision to make. I haven’t been playing much at Connah’s Quay, so this is a good chance for me to get games and hopefully get back among the goals like I did when I first came here.”

Kenton, a former youth with Wolverhampton Wanderers has been described as a direct and pacey winger, which will boost Newtown’s atttack.

Manager Chris Hughes has been running the rule over Joe Kenton who had been training with Newtown, after spending time with Tividale FC who play in the Midland Football League in the first part of the 2016/2017 season.

Hughes spoke to the Newtown website, of his delight of securing the pair.

“We have him until the end of the season, he is a goal scorer, and it will fit into our side.We have been a little bit light going forward after being hit by injuries, and we lost Craig Williams to injuries before that.

He(Kenton) has come highly recommended to us, and we look forward to seeing him out there on the pitch.

We have strengthened in areas we needed to, and with two signings coming in we hope that will pep us up a bit. We are also looking at other targets to bring in.”

The pair could make their debut against The New Saints on Saturday.
