SMOTHERS: I WAS PLEASED WITH OUR SECOND HALF DISPLAY

A superb second half display saw Carmarthen Town win 3-1 much to the delight of their travelling supporters.

Current Carmarthen Town assistant manager Neil Smothers, a former student at Cardiff Met when it was formerly known as UWIC, returned after captaining the side all those years ago.

“Personally for me it was nice to go back to UWIC as I was captain there nearly 20 years ago when they first went into the league of Wales. Its superb for me to see that the MET are back in the league.”

They trailed 1-0 at half time, but Smothers still held the belief the Old Gold could turn it around.

“The game went as we expected, having recently played the Met at home we knew we were in for a tough match. We knew that we had to get a positive result and we know that Cardiff Met are a good team especially at home where they concede very few.”

 Before the game Smothers and Aizlewood spoke about how they’d see the game panning out and it lived up to expectations.

“Ahead of the game myself and Mark thought the game would be tight and in hindsight we could have defended their goal a bit better, but at half time we felt in general it was an even contest.

In the second half we told the lads to keep doing what we were doing, and we looked to get certain players on the ball who we thought could cause some problems. Thankfully this paid dividend and we got success from it. I was extremely pleased with our second half display  and I thought second half we played well.”

Carmarthen Town are now currently in that all important 6th place in the league, with just the Cefn Druids fixture left, they sit a point behind Met. 

We have been a bit inconsistent this season and have had a few long term injuries, but thankfully some of these players are now coming back in Luke Cummings and Jordan Knott. We are always confident that we can perform when we need to.

Carmarthen now await the result of Llandudno vs Bangor as they look to secure a top six place for Phase Two.
