MEET THE MET ULTRAS

A fans group has been set up at Cardiff Met, in an attempt to improve the atmosphere at Cyncoed Campus and to help build a fan base at the club.

‘Cardiff Met Ultras’ made their first appearance at the 2-0 victory over Airbus in which creative and inventive chants were sung about the majority of the Met players.

The purpose you ask of Cardiff Met Ultras? To make Wales aware of Cardiff Met and for the Archers to be associated to a high standard of football and a loud atmosphere.

The inventive chants made for the players have been practised before the match but they describe it as a natural feel when they deliver them during the match.

The importance is for the Archers to find a fan base to tap into. Much of their support consists of students of the university, in which the Ultras are based around of, as well as friends and family of the players. A few ground hoppers are scattered across as well as a few disgruntled Cardiff City fans, still hurt after the re-brand.

The Ultras have big ambitions, with more flags being brought in as the games go by. Despite their late arrival, it will no doubt be a blessing for Met, for players to celebrate with fans and develop an identity as a club.

Christian Edwards himself was prompted on the birth of the Met Ultras by saying “We’ve been questioned that we’re a soulless club, I disagree. People have to come and see what we have here.” To receive the backing and awareness of the manager sets solid foundations for the Met Ultras to grow into something big, it can also prompt other teams to adopt their format.

In terms of fans who aren’t students of the university and come to their own accord, the Met Ultras are open to anyone coming over in the ‘Ultras Corner’

“We would love to get the group even bigger, we don’t want to put off our own fans from coming over, chanting our songs! Everyone is more than welcome!” – Met Ultras on welcoming others
